Psychoeducational Evaluations
A psychoeducational evaluation gets to the root of what is getting in the way of your child's learning. Whether it’s ADHD, dyslexia, anxiety, Autism, or another learning difference, you’ll get clear answers and an actionable plan for what to do next.
What is a Psychoeducational Evaluation?
A psychoeducational evaluation is a comprehensive assessment that examines how your child processes, learns, and functions across a range of areas: cognitive ability, academic achievement, attention, behavior, memory, executive functioning, and social-emotional well-being. It goes far beyond a single screening tool or a checklist.
This evaluation may be the right fit if your child:
Works hard but still struggles with reading, writing, spelling, or math in ways that don't seem to match their capability
Takes longer to complete assignments or take tests than their peers
Finds social situations overwhelming, communicates differently than their peers, or has intense reactions to sensory experiences
Struggles to focus, stay on task, or follow through on things you know they are capable of doing
Shuts down around school, avoids certain situations, or carries worry that feels bigger than what the moment calls for
This evaluation can identify, assess, identify, and diagnose (when applicable):
ADHD
Dyslexia
Dysgraphia
Dyscalculia
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Anxiety and Depression
Intellectual Impairment
Twice-Exceptional (2e) Identification
Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA)
Executive Functioning Impairments
Clarity, from start to finish:
After the evaluation, you will receive a comprehensive written report with clear findings, a diagnosis when applicable, and practical recommendations for school and home. Then, we meet for a one-hour feedback session to review everything together and answer your questions.
You will leave knowing exactly what to do next, with specific next steps and recommendations for any follow-up services that will continue to support your child's growth and success.
School Neuropsychological Evaluations
When a standard evaluation leaves questions unanswered, a school neuropsychological evaluation goes deeper. This is an advanced assessment for children whose challenges are complex, layered, or haven't been fully explained by previous testing.
What is a School Neuropsychological Evaluation?
A school neuropsychological evaluation examines the relationship between brain function and how your child learns, behaves, and performs in school. It explores neurological processing, attention, memory, sensorimotor function, executive function, language, and visual-spatial skills in greater depth than a standard psychoeducational evaluation.
As a board-certified Diplomate in School Neuropsychology (ABSNP), I bring one of the highest levels of specialized training in this field to every evaluation.
This evaluation is particularly helpful for children with:
Complex or layered learning profiles that haven't been fully explained
Previous evaluations that raised more questions than answers
Significant challenges with attention, memory, processing speed, or executive function
A history of neurological concerns, brain injury, or medical conditions affecting learning
Twice-Exceptional profiles that require a more nuanced lens
After the evaluation:
Following the evaluation, I review and analyze all of the data collected before preparing your written report. That report maps your child's specific brain-based strengths and challenges, includes a diagnosis when applicable, and provides targeted recommendations for both school and home.
‍
We then meet for a one-hour feedback session to review the findings together and make sure you leave with complete clarity, a concrete plan, and confidence in every next step.
IQ Testing
An IQ score can open important doors. Whether you need formal cognitive testing for school placement, gifted program eligibility, or as part of a broader evaluation, this assessment gives you clear, documented results.
What is IQ Testing?
IQ testing, also known as cognitive ability testing, measures your child's intellectual functioning across several key areas, including verbal comprehension, visual-spatial reasoning, fluid reasoning, working memory, and processing speed. It can be completed as a standalone assessment or as part of a more comprehensive evaluation.
Common reasons families seek IQ testing:
Gifted program or private school admissions
Understanding cognitive potential alongside academic performance
Identifying significant discrepancies between ability and achievement
Legal or educational documentation for accommodations or placement decisions
As a component of a broader psychoeducational or school neuropsychological evaluation
The documentation you need, and more:
Once testing is complete, I review and analyze the results before preparing a written report that includes your child's cognitive profile and a plain-language explanation of what the scores mean.
You will have everything you need to submit to a school, a gifted program, or any other organization that requires formal documentation.
We’ll also meet together to walk through everything and make sure you leave knowing exactly how to use the results to best support your child.
Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs)
If your school district has conducted an evaluation and you have concerns about the eligibility decisions based on the assessment data, or feel the results don't fully capture your child, you have the right to request an Independent Educational Evaluation. IEEs are usually paid for by the school district. This is a second opinion conducted by a qualified professional outside the district.
What is an Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE)?
An Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) is an assessment completed by a private evaluator when a parent disagrees with a district's evaluation or believes the assessment was incomplete.
Under IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act), parents have the right to request an IEE at public expense or choose to obtain one privately.
I regularly provide IEEs for families throughout Marin County and the greater Bay Area. As a former district school psychologist, I understand exactly what these evaluations require and how to make them count.
An IEE may be the right step if:
The district's evaluation doesn't reflect what you observe in your child
The school has denied services, and you want an independent perspective
You want more thorough documentation to bring to an IEP meeting
You are preparing for a due process hearing or a formal dispute with the district
Independent findings, clearly documented:
The written report you receive is prepared entirely independently of the school district. It is thorough, clearly documented, and aligned with educational and legal standards.
The report includes findings, a DSM-5 diagnosis when applicable, special education eligibility criteria, and specific recommendations. It is ready to be submitted to the district, used at an IEP meeting, or brought into any dispute resolution process. We then meet for a one-hour feedback session so that you have a solid understanding of the report and recommendations.
Special Education Advocacy
Navigating the special education system can feel like learning a new language while fighting for your child at the same time. As a former school psychologist who spent nearly two decades inside public districts, I bring firsthand knowledge of how the system works and how to advocate effectively within it.
What is Special Education Advocacy?
Special education advocacy is support for families who are trying to understand their rights, navigate IEP processes, or address concerns about the services their child is receiving. The goal is to help families understand what they are entitled to and how to communicate clearly and confidently with school teams.
This service may be helpful when:
You feel uncertain about your rights and what your child is entitled to
The school district is pushing back on your child's needs or proposed services
You want to understand the IEP process before walking into a meeting
You feel like the team isn't listening or your child's needs aren't being taken seriously
You need someone with experience on both sides of the table in your corner
In your corner, every step of the way:
Advocacy support looks different for every family. Depending on what you need, this could mean reviewing an existing evaluation report, helping you understand your rights and prepare for an upcoming meeting, coaching you on how to communicate effectively with the school team, or attending a meeting alongside you so you are not navigating it alone.
IEP and 504 Plan Support
If you have ever left an IEP meeting feeling uncertain about what was just agreed to, or unsure whether your child is actually getting what they need, you are not alone. I help families cut through the confusion and make sure the plan reflects what your child truly needs.
What is IEP and 504 Plan Support?
IEP and 504 Plan Support is about making sure the plan your child has on paper actually reflects what they need. This includes reviewing existing plans, helping you understand how assessment findings translate into school services, preparing you for upcoming meetings, and ensuring that goals and accommodations are specific enough to make a real difference.
This service may be right for you if:
Your child has an IEP or 504, and you aren't sure if it's complete or working as it should
You've received an evaluation and want help understanding it and making sure the right services are provided
You want an expert to review the proposed plan before you sign it
Current goals feel too vague, or accommodations feel generic
You want someone with firsthand experience in IEP development to review and advise
Support that makes a difference:
After working together, you will have a clear understanding of your child's plan, what it should include, and what to ask for if it falls short.
You will leave with the knowledge and confidence to advocate for a plan that is specific, accurate, and built around your child's needs.
College & Testing Accommodations Evaluations
For students and adults with suspected or diagnosed learning differences, accommodations are not a shortcut. Whether you are preparing for the SAT, applying for support through a college disability services office, or sitting for a graduate licensing exam, you deserve a level playing field. Getting there requires current, thorough documentation, and that is exactly what this evaluation provides.
What is a College & Testing Accommodations Evaluation?
A college and testing accommodations evaluation provides the documentation needed to request accommodations in academic settings and on high-stakes standardized exams. This could include things like extended time, reduced-distraction testing environments, classroom supports, or housing accommodations. I conduct evaluations that meet the documentation standards required by colleges and universities, the College Board, ACT, and graduate testing organizations. This service is available at every stage, from high school through graduate and professional programs.
This service is designed for:
High school students applying for SAT, ACT, or AP exam accommodations
College students seeking classroom or housing accommodations through their school's disability services office
Adults preparing for graduate or professional licensing exams such as the MCAT, LSAT, Bar, or GRE
Anyone who has a diagnosis but lacks recent documentation that meets current standards
Anyone who has never been formally evaluated but has long suspected a learning difference
Documentation to help you succeed:
Once testing is complete, I prepare a comprehensive written report that meets the documentation requirements of testing organizations and educational institutions, including a full profile, a diagnosis when applicable, and specific accommodation recommendations. We then meet for a feedback session to walk through the findings and make sure you have everything you need to move forward.

Frequently Asked Questions
A psychoeducational evaluation is a comprehensive assessment of how your child learns, processes information, and functions academically, socially, emotionally, and behaviorally. It is a common starting point for families who are noticing learning, attention, behavioral, or emotional challenges.
A school neuropsychological evaluation goes deeper, examining the relationship between brain function and learning in greater detail. It is typically recommended when a child has a complex or layered profile, when previous evaluations have left questions unanswered, or when there is a history of neurological concerns or brain injury.
If you are unsure which is the right fit, a free consultation will help us figure that out together.
There is no single checklist, and that is exactly why a comprehensive evaluation matters. ADHD and Autism can look very different from child to child, and their signs are not always obvious.
If your child struggles to focus, stay organized, or follow through, or if they find social situations overwhelming, communicate differently than their peers, have very specific interests, or have intense reactions to sensory experiences, it may be worth exploring further.
You do not need a referral or a formal diagnosis before reaching out. If something feels off, that is reason enough to start a conversation.
Yes. Many private schools in Marin County and across the Bay Area require IQ Testing as part of the admissions process. I provide evaluations that meet those requirements and include a comprehensive written report with your child's cognitive profile and a plain-language explanation of the results. If you are applying to a specific school and want to make sure the evaluation meets their documentation standards, reach out, and we can talk through the details.
Yes, and this is an area I am particularly passionate about. Twice-Exceptional students are both gifted and face learning or developmental challenges. They are often misunderstood or underserved by systems that are not designed to see the full picture. A comprehensive evaluation can identify both strengths and barriers, giving you and your child's school the information needed to support them better.
My practice is located in San Rafael, and I serve families throughout Marin County, including Corte Madera, Greenbrae, Kentfield, Larkspur, Mill Valley, Novato, San Anselmo, Sausalito, Tiburon, and surrounding areas. I also provide Independent Educational Evaluations for families across the broader Bay Area, and some services are available virtually for families in California and Massachusetts.
Yes. My reports are written to meet the standards required by school districts throughout Marin County and the Bay Area. Having spent nearly two decades working as a school psychologist inside public districts in Marin, Sonoma, and Contra Costa counties, I understand exactly what school teams need to see and how to communicate findings in a way that is clear, well-documented, and difficult to dismiss.
A diagnosis is a starting point, not the full picture. Many families come to me with an existing diagnosis, but without a clear understanding of how their child's specific profile affects their learning, or without recommendations they can actually use at school and at home. An evaluation goes beyond the label to give your family the deeper insight and practical guidance needed to support your child.
School-based assessments serve an important purpose, but their primary goal is to determine eligibility for special education and support services within the district, not to give your family the full picture. They are often limited by caseload demands, time constraints, and the scope of what the district is required to assess.
A private evaluation has no such limits. It is comprehensive, unhurried, and built entirely around your child as an individual. You receive a detailed written report, a dedicated feedback session, and recommendations that go beyond what the school system is structured to provide. For families in Marin County and across the Bay Area who want a complete picture and a real plan, a private evaluation makes a meaningful difference.
You deserve an expert in your corner.
Navigating evaluations, school systems, and support services is a lot to carry on your own. I am here to walk alongside you, make sense of the process, and make sure you and your child have the support you deserve. Your next step starts with a free consultation call.
